REGISTRATION QUESTIONS
I registered, but never received a confirmation email. What do I do?
Please be patient as it may take up to an hour to process your registration request. If you have not received your confirmation email within an hour, there are a few possible explanations. Your local email server may be busy. You may have entered an incorrect or misspelled email address in the registration form. Or, you may have AussieBid emails blocked from your mail server, please make sure to also check your "bulk" mailbox. Most ISP's these days have Spam Filters and block mail they consider to be spam. Please ensure you set mail from AussieBid as “safe”

The best thing to do is request your confirmation email again from Helpdesk: http://aussiebid.com.au/helpdesk/
Does AussieBid require my credit card when I register

Go to the login page and click on Forgot your password?
There you will be asked to provide your registered Nickname and Email Address. You will then be sent an email instantly that will contain a temporary password. Can I change my AussieBid Nickname/Username?

You may change your Nickname/Username at any time by contacting Helpdesk http://aussiebid.com.au/helpdesk/
AussieBid discourages members from frequently changing their Nickname as it is how others come to recognize you. Continuously changing your Nickname might lead other members to believe that you have something to hide. You should choose a Nickname that will suit you for the long duration of your membership with Aussiebid.
Please note that we reserve the right to delete inactive accounts from our database after three months of inactivity.

I want to change my email address. Do I have to register again?

BIDDING QUESTIONS
What do I do if I don’t receive an item I paid for or it is significantly not as described?
Go to the DISPUTE CONSOLE (My AussieBid > My Account > Dispute Console) and report the matter to us.
Is it possible to lower or retract my bid?
Retracting a bid once it is placed is possible except in the final 12 hours of the auction. Please be very careful when you bid and only place bids that you intend to follow through with.
After I place a bid, can I increase my maximum bid (proxy bid)?
Yes. As long as the auction has not closed, you may submit a new maximum bid.
Where can I get more information about the seller?
You can easily learn more about the seller by browsing through their feedback profile. This is an excellent way to find out about a seller's trading habits and prior dealings on AussieBid. You may also visit a seller's "About Me" page to see what information they provide about themselves.
Why didn't my bid appear on the item's auction page?
Your bid will not be recorded if you do not properly complete the following steps:

After reviewing the item(s) you want to bid on, enter your maximum bid amount, nickname and password in the spaces provided.

Review your information and click on the "Submit" button.
Upon completing these first two steps, you should be taken to a bid confirmation page where you will be notified if you are the current high bidder.
Will the system allow me to bid against myself?
No, bidders are not able to bid against themselves. If you attempt to place a bid against yourself, you may end up raising your maximum proxy bid, but your current bid will not be affected.
Why am I immediately outbid every time I place a bid?
This means that another bidder has placed a maximum (proxy) bid higher than yours. As soon as your bid was confirmed, our system raised the other member's bid above yours just enough to make them the current highest bidder.
How will I know if I am outbid?
We will send an email to notify you if you have been outbid. It is in your best interest to visit AussieBid periodically due to possible delays with emails.
Why did my bid jump up so high?
If you are bidding in a Reserve auction and you set your maximum bid at a price that is equal or higher than the seller's reserve price, your bid will automatically be raised to meet it.

For example, a seller sets a minimum bid at $30 and a reserve price at $50. If you set your maximum bid at $70, your bid will automatically jump to $50 and it will be noted that the reserve price has been met.
Another situation where your bid might jump is when another bidder places a higher maximum bid. Our system will automatically place your bid, up to your set maximum bid, on your behalf.
What if I cannot contact the seller?
Please be patient as the seller may have encountered a personal emergency or has been unable to respond to his/her email. If you are unable to contact the seller within a reasonable amount of time, we encourage you to leave appropriate feedback to warn others. In certain circumstances you can ask HELPDESK for your trading partner's phone number. This is done is exceptional circumstances only.
What do I do if the seller decides not to sell the item?
Although we do encourage buyers and sellers to follow through with their business obligations, AussieBid cannot force anyone to complete a transaction if they choose not to. If this situation does occur, bidders are encouraged to take action by leaving suitable feedback for the seller to warn others.

For this reason, AussieBid asks you to review your information before submitting your auction.
How do I end my auction early?
As a seller, should you decide not to sell your item, you may close your auction early by visiting ALL SELLING > Selling. Doing so will require that you are signed in first. Then, click on the Delete link. Be advised, if your auction has received bids, you are obligated to sell the item to the highest bidder (provided the Reserve Price was met).

If you are unable to contact the winning bidder within a reasonable amount of time (we suggest 5 business days as not everyone responds to his/her email daily). You may leave appropriate feedback about the winning bidder though.

To retrieve you FVF charge and enter a dispute, visit our Dispute Console.
What is the Dispute Console?

The Dispute Console is where members may resolve buying/selling disputes between themselves. If a dispute can't be resolved between buyer/seller our Moderator will review the dispute and make a decision.

If you have a non-paying bidder you must report the matter through the Dispute Console in order to be credited with the Final Value Fee.

SAFETRADING
Auction Safety Tips

Auction Safety

We have compiled these tips to help keep you safe when using online auctions. These apply more for the larger priced purchases and would recommend following these guidelines.

1. Check any feedback left on the seller from other auctions. Have they sold anything of any value to other users on the auctions? These are important, as it can give an indication of the sellers trustworthiness. Remember though that a user can get their friends to leave feedback, so don't make your judgment purely on feedback. If in doubt DON'T BID.

2. If the user is new and you are purchasing goods of value, make contact with the seller before sending any payment. Ask the seller for a landline telephone number so that you can discuss delivery and payment, or ask them to fax a copy of their drivers license or passport. If they are reluctant to give any information then proceed with caution. If possible try and verify that they are on the electoral register at the address they provided. Again if you can't verify the information they have provided, please consider your options carefully. If in doubt DON'T BID.

3. Try and use a method of payment that can be traced through official channels. Don't send cash or money orders for large purchases. Use personal cheques, bank cheques, Paypal or any other service where the user has to verify who they are. This does not mean you will be totally safe, but at least you have some information to go on. The best method to use would be an escrow service as the seller doesn't get payment until you have safely received and inspected the goods. If in doubt DON'T BID.

4. Auction Pictures. It's quite common for those trying to sell a non existent article to use pictures taken from other auctions, especially ebay. They even copy and use the items description. It's always worth doing a search on other auctions to see if an identical article is for sale (same picture or description). If in doubt DON'T BID.

5. Other issues. Whilst not a definitive indicator, and by no means should you automatically assume that a seller displaying any of these characteristics in not honest, our experience has shown us that fraudsters often display specific behaviors. Here's some tell tale signs to look out for:

· Listings are typically for high value ($150-600+), desirable products like laptop computers, plasma TVs, top of the range camcorders and top end mobile phones.

· Listings are often for very short times (i.e. 3 days)

· Listings usually have no reserve

· The seller rating is usually zero

· Correspondence and the listing itself are written in poor English, usually in basic text

· User may have a friend rating them to make them look genuine. Look carefully at the rating, and the auction it was for. Was the rating given too quickly after the close of the auction. Was the auction that the rating was given on very short. Check the email address of the bidder, it may be very close to the sellers.

This list is not exhaustive and we advise that you carefully consider every transaction before you part with your payment. If in doubt DON'T BID.

These tips are provided as a guide. You must ultimately use your own judgment regarding the user you are dealing with. If you have any doubts over the seller, don't bid on the auction. Most sellers are genuine and are very helpful. If you really want the product, then before bidding, ask the seller if they would be willing to use an escrow service as this would provide the best security, when buying an item of value.

AussieBids SafeBuy Program (ASB)

The AussieBid SafeBuy (ASB) is implemented as a measure to deter fraud, non-paying bidders and non-supplying sellers.

All sellers wishing to list items with a starting price, Buy it Now Price, Reserve Price or value exceeding $25 must apply for ASB membership. Details of the program may be viewed at http://www.aussiebid.com.au/safebuy.php.

It's easy to apply and it is free. We do not require your Credit Card details.

Non ASB Sellers who circumvent the ASB process by listing obviously expensive items at a starting price below $25 may be considered in breach of this policy.

AussieBids also encourages Buyers to join the ASB program.

POLICIES
Alcohol Policy

Sellers that wish to list alcohol or wine on AussieBid must have a license to sell these types of items.

Sellers must place the number of their license, to sell alcohol or wine, in the item listing.

Alcohol and wine may only be traded domestically, within Australia.

Various States have different laws and guidelines regarding the legality of trading wine and alcohol. Make sure you know your State's laws and if (and where) you are allowed to post alcohol and wine. You should research the liquor laws for all of Australia's States that may be involved in your transaction.

When alcohol is posted to a buyer, you must obtain the signature of an adult (person over 18 years of age).

Many States have very specific laws based upon the quantity and type of alcohol being posted.

Sellers should describe the signature and postage requirements for fulfilling the transaction when listing alcoholic items on AussieBids.

Many States require that postage carriers have licenses to transport alcohol.

Your postage carrier must be capable of obtaining the requisite signature. Australia Post is unable to solicit age verification upon delivery of an item.
AussieBids is a Platform

Overview. Our site only provides auction services for sellers to list items (or, as appropriate, solicit offers to buy) and buyers to bid on items. We are not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. We do not have control over the items that are posted in the auction site, and cannot guarantee the authenticity and quality of said product. We are not responsible for the actions the sellers/buyers take before, during, and after the auction, typographical errors, misprints, loss of merchandise/money, damage or failure of equipment, due to your visit to this auction site. Use of this site is at your own risk, and content is presented 'As-Is'. We cannot ensure that a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction.

"You will not hold AussieBids responsible for other users' actions or inactions, including things they post. You acknowledge that we are not a traditional auctioneer. Instead, the Site is a venue to allow anyone to offer, sell, and buy just about anything, at anytime, from anywhere, in a variety of pricing formats and venues, such as stores, fixed price formats and auction-style formats. We are not involved in the actual transaction between buyers and sellers. We have no control over and do not guarantee the quality, safety or legality of items advertised, the truth or accuracy of listings, the ability of sellers to sell items, the ability of buyers to pay for items, or that a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction."
Authenticity Disclaimers

Sellers may not disclaim knowledge of, or responsibility for, the authenticity or legality of the items offered in their listings. Sellers should take steps to ensure that their items are authentic before listing them on AussieBids. If a seller cannot verify the authenticity of an item, the seller is not permitted to list it.

Cancellation of Listings
AussieBids always reserves the right to cancel auctions/Listings without notice or explanation.

There are many reasons why we may cancel or suspend a listing/s. The list given below is by no means complete.

  • We may consider the auction is of no commercial value
  • The Seller's account has been suspended for any one or more reasons including suspected fraud, overdue account, etc
  • The auction is significantly in the wrong category.
  • The auction title is not in keeping with the description
  • The auction description is grossly inadequate or misleading.
  • The auction title contains Key Word spamming
  • AussieBids is unable to contact the seller
  • The seller's email address is not valid or not working
  • The auction breaches intellectual property
  • The item is considered not to be genuine (example: A pirated DVD).
  • The seller does not respond to ASK SELLER A QUESTION within a reasonable time.
  • The auction is for an illegal item. (One not permitted to be listed on AussieBid).
  • The seller has posted an illegal link
  • The seller has included his email address and has invited members to (example) “email me for extra titles”
Note: If AussieBids cancels a listing/s for any reason whatsoever, all bids on the item/s are automatically removed by the system.
Contact Information Policy
Your contact information on AussiefBid must always be current and AussieBid will suspend users due to:
Misrepresentation of identity (user) - Representing yourself as another AussieBid fuser or registering by using the identity of someone else.
False or missing contact information - Falsifying or omitting your full name, address, and/or telephone number (including the use of fax machines or disconnected numbers).

Dead/invalid email addresses - This is determined when an email address bounces repeatedly (usually an error message that the email address or mailbox is unknown or invalid).
Note: if you use incorrect, invalid, misleading or incomplete information in the registration process your account will not be activated.

If you later change your registration details to incorrect, invalid, misleading or incomplete information, your account will be suspended

Your contact information on AussieBid must be updated whenever the need to do arises (eg) Change of address, change of email address or telephone number.

Further note: AussieBid Safetrading Team checks all registration details and our exclusive Nominex ® software matches IP to country of origin. Therefore, if you are in Nigeria and give your country as USA (example), the registration process will block activation of the account.
Excessive Postage & Handling
AussieBid encourages sellers to clearly describe the item and terms of postage and delivery in their listings to avoid possible confusion.

A postage and handling fee can cover the seller's reasonable costs for mailing, packaging and handling the item providing the postage and handling fee is clearly stated in the listing.

When a bid is placed, the bidder is entering into an agreement with the seller to purchase the item, which most often means incurring reasonable postage charges that may also include handling fees.

AussieBid strongly recommends that bidders read ALL of the item description BEFORE placing a bid. If the information is unclear, you should ASK SELLER A QUESTION prior to bidding.
False or Missing Contact Information
Falsifying or omitting contact information such as a member's name, address, and/or telephone number when registering on AussieBid is not permitted. It is also not permitted to use fax or disconnected numbers as a telephone number.
Feedback Removal Policy

AussieBid, at its own discretion, may amend feedback left for another member in the following circumstances:

  • The feedback contains abuse, profanity, sexist or racial remarks, or, refers to another site or member in an offensive manner.
  • AussieBid, at its own discretion, may totally remove feedback left for another member in the following circumstances:
  • The feedback was left by a Non-Paying Bidder
  • The feedback was left by a non-selling seller
  • Reprisal Negative feedback (eg) After the buyer pays for an item he discovers the item was significantly not as described so he leaves negative feedback to that effect. The seller then leaves negative reprisal feedback. In this instance, the negative feedback for the buyer may be removed. AussieBid does not remove feedback because the parties have mutually agreed to withdraw their feedback.f
GST Policy
Due to government enacted legislation, from 1 July 2000 items bought and sold by Australians may be subject to a goods and services tax ("GST").
AussieBid strongly recommends that members contact the Australian Taxation Office ("ATO") or their taxation advisor for information on the GST.
The Australian Taxation Office can be contacted at the following address: www.ato.gov.au
The following is provided for information purposes only. If you require advice in relation to GST issues, AussieBid strongly advises you to seek the services of a tax or accounting professional. You might also like to contact the Australian Taxation Office (“ATO”) (www.ato.gov.au) and/or the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (www.accc.gov.au

If a seller is charging EXTRA for GST he must clearly state so on his listing.
Keyword Spam

Keyword spamming occurs when members place brand names or other inappropriate keywords in a title or description for the purpose of gaining attention or diverting members to a listing. This is not permitted on AussieBid.

Linking Email Addresses and Web Forms in Listings

Sellers’ listings may include a link that opens an email client or Web form for potential bidders to ask questions about the item in the listing (links are not permitted from the Web form, however). Please note that the link may only be used to enable an email client or Web form. It may not direct a buyer to another Web page that promotes items for sale outside-of-AussieBid.

Links Policy
In general, AussieBid allows the following, providing the intent of the link is not fee avoidance or the promotion of another online auction site.

  • One link to a page that further describes the item being sold in that listing.

  • One link to your email address that opens an email client for potential buyers to ask questions about the item in that listing.

  • Links to photos of the item for sale.

  • Links to your AussieBids Store &/or listings.

  • Links to your About Me page (in addition to the About Me icon already provided).

  • One link to your listing terms and conditions (providing that the most relevant information is within the listing itself and that this page does not include any other links.
  • Linking to web sites that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services, or including links for any purpose other than those listed above is not allowed. Prohibited links include, but are not limited to:

  • Links to web pages that offer to trade, sell or purchase goods or services outside of AussieBid. This applies whether it is a static URL or an active link.

  • Links to web sites or pages offering merchandise is not permitted on AussieBid.

  • Links that encourage buyers to place their bids through a site other than AussieBid.

  • Links to any Adults Only/Mature Audiences site, including our own sexbay.com.au
Note: AussieBid does not recommend Linking Email Addresses and Web Forms in Listings as it may lead to increased spam to your account and attract potential scammers. We recommend buyers use the ASK SELLER A QUESTION feature.
Listing In Wrong Categories
Items must be listed in the appropriate category. AussieBid will move or cancel listings in wrong categories without notice.
Mature Audiences

Under Australian law it may be a criminal offence for you to buy or sell certain types of publications, films and computer games. The Classification (Publications, Films and Computer Games) Act 1995 sets out guidelines for the classification of these items.
