The Iron Horse “Steam Locomotive” Novelty Note
This 1 Million Dollar note celebrates that most fascinating of self-propelled vehicles, the Locomotive.
Experimental steam locomotives were first built in Wales and England in 1803. The first U.S. steam locomotive was built by John Stevens in the 1820’s and the first commercially usable locomotive, the Tom Thumb, was built in Baltimore in 1830 by Peter Cooper. Improvements would eventually come thru the years to enable a locomotive to move up to 200 freight cars at 75mph or 120kph. Steam from wood or coal fuel was the major source of power until the mid-20th century in Europe. Later, diesel power replaced steam because of its higher efficiency and lower cost, though diesel-electric and gas turbine-electric combinations were also used.
Front of bill features a close up picture of a shiny green & red locomotive in the middle. It has the quote “From shipping cargo to precious passengers. Trains are the work horse of American Transportation” with a Railway Crossing sign underneath. It has “CHOOCHOO2002” as Serial No and has “THE IRON HORSE” printed across bottom of note.
Back of note features a long steam train on a track in the middle. On one side it has a small picture of a train in the distance on a curved track. It has a R x R sign on the other side. It has “One Million Dollars” printed across bottom of note with “POWER” printed above that.
This beautifully crafted novelty currency bill is a quality note printed on both sides, the artwork is incredibly detailed. There are 2 of the same note in the Photo only so as to display both sides of the note. This auction is for 1 note.
Perfect Gift for the Locomotive lover!
