Despite not one, but two later re-makes this original version is considered the best. Made in 1934 before Hitchcock's departure for Hollywood "The 39 Steps" has all the ingredients of a great thriller.



An innocent man becomes the main suspect in the murder of a young woman. He's on the run from the police when he meets another young woman who doesn't believe his story so she turns him in. In a strange twist the two end up handcuffed together and she is eventually persuaded of his innocence. Now they must find a way to convince the police.



Starring: Peggy Ashcroft, Robert Donat, Madeleine Carroll
