DESCRIPTION
Politics of Australian Democracy by Hugh V Emy

This book provides a comprehensive account of Australian politics and an original interpretation of the \'diffused\' nature of the political system. The author argues that features of diffusion and equalisation can be used to shed a new sign if icance on Australian democracy and its institutions.
The book is designed to provide a systematic introduction to the discipline of political science.
The first two sections show why the ability to make sense of the Australian political system requires first a knowledge of the questions, criteria and concepts used by political scientists. Section one explains what kind of discipline political science is. Section two contains a fresh interpretation of democratic theory. As a whole, the book offers an original way to explain how a functioning democracy works.
Hugh V Emy completed both his first and doctorate at the London School of Economics, London University. His teaching interests range widely and he has published articles on British, South African and Australian politics, as well as a book on British political history. He joined Monash University in 1969 and is now a professor in the Department of Politics where he currently lectures on political theory and Australian politics.
