ONE FOR THE ROAD From The Diary Of A Larrikin Sportsman
By Doug Walters
There
never was a cricketer - or a character - like Doug Walters. The boy
from Dungog breezed onto the international scene in 1965 with a century
in his first Test and went on to become a legend in his time (or should
that be, before closing time ?). When he bowed out in 1981,
Walters had amassed 5357 Test runs at an average of 48.26 to etch his
name in this country's sporting history as a batsman of rare quality. With the ball he often broke partnerships with his gentle medium pacers, finishing with 49 Test wickets at an average of 29.08. But this book is not about statistics or great cricketing deeds. One For The Road
is all about the fun side of the game and the people who make it that
way. Doug Walters epitomised the laid back Australian cricketer and his
very nature took him through some hilarious situations around the world. Cricket may have taken Doug Walters out of Dungog, but it never took Dungog out of Doug Walters.
One For The Road is testimony to that.
A great read over a beer and a smoke.
This book is in very good condition. Covers and spine firm, pages crisp and clean apart from small sticker on the flyleaf.
