The Olympus E-1 Digital SLR camera is a high performance, high resolution 5.5 megapixel package. This camera is termed a completely digital solution, the first camera to be built without relying on what Olympus terms “a film/digital hybrid system.” The E-1 creates a common standard for image sensor size and lens configurations. Based on the Four Thirds open standard, the E-1 offers a new Full-Frame Transfer CCD for increased dynamic range, improved color, and reduced image noise.
Digital Specific Lenses for the Olympus E-1 are matched to the CCD to break down light and picture-quality barriers. The ED glass elements utilized by the Digital Zuiko Lenses provide impeccable focusing accuracy. Aspherical glass elements ensure that flawless focusing exists from edge-to-edge. Additionally, Olympus's exclusive Supersonic Wave Filter virtually eliminates dust particles from the imager. And that's just the beginning. Go past any boundaries you've ever experienced and see why the E-1 and its numerous state-of-the-art technologies make all the difference.
A quick glance at the E-1 shows clear heritage from the previous E-10/E-20 design. The lens mount is located very close to the right hand edge of the camera with a deep hand grip on the left. This is a much less 'conventional' design than other digital SLR's which tend to be based on (at least the look of) 35 mm SLR's. The E-1's design works well from a photographers point of view and feels no less professional than the best from Canon or Nikon. Build quality is very high, the camera feels very solid and weighty with absolutely no creaks or rattles (the metal used in the body construction feels to be of a thick grade). All controls are firm and damped. Every control is protected against accidental change by requiring a hold of the button and roll of the main or sub dial, the exposure dial can only be turned by holding the lock button on its top.

~~Seals~~
All compartments and interfaces between body components have rubber seals and this says Olympus helps the camera to be 'weather proof' (to standard IPX1). That is not to say the camera is water proof, but that it could withstand a light shower and/or dusty conditions.

Equivalent to an 80-300mm on a 35mm camera lens, this 3.8x telephoto zoom lens offers both extended telephoto performance and a bright f/3.5-4.5 maximum aperture. This lightweight lens is highly portable, making it ideal for use as a regular lens that can be carried anywhere.
