How anyone with
a nickname "Tangles" could ever have aspired to the highest level in
sports like Australian football and international Test cricket remains one of
life's enigmas, but the big fella from the Apple Isle achieved it. Firstly as a
ruckman with the Melbourne Demons (85 games and 23 goals), then as a medium
quickie for Australia (38 Tests and 138 wickets).
But it is as a raconteur and TV sports host that he has made the biggest
impact, with a lively, wicked sense of humour which has seen him very much in
demand as an after-dinner speaker, especially at sportsmen's nights, where he
is very much at home with a schooner or pot in hand. Well, after all, his
father was a publican.
He has more recently turned his talents to the written word. As Daryl Somers
declares in the foreword to this book "A LITERARY GENIUS ! He has the
BRILLIANCE OF A SHAKESPEARE, the INTRIGUE OF A LUDLUM and some say the LOOKS OF
A CARTLAND ...!" Well, ok, we all know Daryl has a very big tongue and a
large cheek to keep it in, but in this, the third offering by
"Tanglefoot", the laughs just keep coming.
This book is in
excellent condition. Hard cover and spine are firm, pages are crisp, clean and
unmarked throughout. Unlike his other books, which consisted of short anecdotal
snippets, this one is presented as five meaty chapters. "Little Max" is well worth a read.
