CHANGING HEARTS
Two women: one in the prime of her life, one in her twilight years, face the biggest challenge of life as they come to terms with death. Living in the same town filled with eccentric characters, their joint challenge teaches the two women and those who love them invaluable life lessons.
Amber Connors (Lauren Holly), blessed with vibrant, sunny beauty and vast compassion, befriends irritable Betty Miller (Faye Dunaway), whose vestiges of vanity and proud carriage put the lie to her reclusive persona. Jilted decades before by old flame Johnny Binkley (Tom Skerritt), Betty has attempted to even the score in a wave of marriages, each of which fell short of true love. Undeterred by the years, Johnny aims to woo Betty back into his arms – if he can just get her to forgive his indiscretions.
Meanwhile, Amber stumbles onto a romantic dilemma of her own: a dashing but troubled younger man, whose path has fatefully crossed with hers. He seems to have eyes only for her. At first suspicious of Amber’s seemingly impermeable happiness, Jason (Ian Somerhalder), grows enchanted by this beautiful, older woman who, despite tremendous heartache, seems to have the secret to life that makes it worth fighting for...
Weaving in and out of Amber’s and Betty’s lives are well-meaning but ditzy Nurse Rollins (Edie McClurg) and a chorus of meddling, do-gooder church ladies (including Janet Carroll). Each woman comes to learn that when facing life’s biggest questions, it’s the small moments that provide the answers.
